Money Stories: Hollie Azzopardi
Hollie Azzopardi is a leading Australian Mind, Body & Soul mentor, intuitive, body love advocate and model, speaker and writer.
Co-host of The Middle Podcast, and published in Cosmopolitan, OK Magazine and Mamamia, her workshops, online programmes and speaking events incorporate a refreshing “no bullshit” approach to living in alignment, following your intuition and pursuing what lights you up. I had the pleasure of speaking with Hollie about her Money Story.
What’s one of your earliest money memories?
This is wild, but I actually remember being super young and hiding cash behind different photo frames in my bedroom! Like, I would actually stuff notes between the frame and the photo. I have NO idea where I got that idea from.
How would you describe your relationship with money today?
It ebbs and flows. I’ve worked hard on my money relationship, and these days have an abundance mindset and am very comfortable with cultivating financial wealth - but I really am only figuring the ‘foundations’ of this belief out now. There is much I don’t know, and I still get stuck and anxious at times for sure!
Was there a particular moment or event where you decided to make your financial wellbeing a priority?
Running a business was eye-opening for me. Only having yourself to rely on financially, rather than the “security” of a salary I had relied on my whole life, changed everything. All of a sudden cashflow, P&L statements and BAS were a necessary priority and I knew that for longevity in my dream biz, I had to make these foreign concepts part of my every day!
What do you wish you could have told your 18 year old self about money?
I would tell my 18 year old self that money is energetic so pay attention to how you speak about it (and to it) and where you choose to circulate and invest it.
Best piece of financial advice you’ve ever received?
Put 40% aside on every bit that comes into the business, and don’t touch it - then any leftover after tax time is your bonus (but also, invest back into the business whenever you can).
What’s your favourite thing to splurge money on?
Travel always - anything related to travel - beautiful accommodation, fancy meals and wine, upgrading flights, give me all of the bourgeois travel!
Can you tell me about your proudest money moment?
Hitting 6 figures in my business. It was sort of ego-fuelled but also, felt like a proud “I can make decent money on my own” moment.
Where or who do you go to when you wanna learn about money?
I talk to my business-owner friends who are good with money, and have similar values to me. Otherwise, I tend to be a bit of a lost cause to be honest!
What would you do if you won $100,000 today?
Put 40% aside, and then spend the remaining on an epic 6 month holiday around the world with my husband (European summer heavy, obvs!).
How do you use your money as a force for good?
I circulate it back into causes and businesses I am passionate about. I love supporting small business as often as I can - especially service providers similar to me, because #canrelate. I also contribute multiple charitable investments throughout the year - it’s a “give back” priority to me to circulate my financial privilege as often as possible.
